OUR STORY
Three Generations.
One Sacred River.
Some families pass down land. Some pass down gold. The Sahani family passed down something far more sacred — a boat on the Ganga, and the devotion to row it well.
It began in 1965, when our grandfather first took to these waters in Varanasi. There were no WhatsApp bookings, no motor engines — only two hands, one wooden boat, and an unshakeable belief that serving guests on the Ganga was a privilege, not merely a profession. He rowed pilgrims to the ghats, carried families for Asthi Visarjan, and watched the Aarti every single evening from the water.
"This is not a business we built — it is a blessing we inherited. The Ganga herself called our family to her shore, and we have never looked away."
— Ganga Ram Sahani
Our father carried on that same oar, adding more boats, learning every current, every ghat, every pilgrimage season. He taught us that a good boatman never rushes a guest — he reads the river and reads the person, and gives them exactly what the Ganga intended them to receive.Today, I — Ganga Ram Sahani — look after this same family business with the same values my grandfather and father lived by. We now operate a fleet of six motor boats, three double-decker Bajra boats, and one traditional hand-rowed boat — each one a vessel of care, of safety, and of the deep pride of a family that has belonged to the Ganga for sixty years.
Our entire endeavour, from the first morning ride to the last evening Aarti, is to ensure that no guest ever faces a moment of difficulty on our watch. Boating is not a side business for us. It is our dharma. It is our pehchaan. It is all we know — and we know it better than anyone else on these ghats.
